Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW) is hiring one paid intern for the Spring 2025 semester to support our nation-wide climate resilience service organization. This internship position is in partnership with the Mass Clean Energy Center’s Clean Energy Internship Program.
In order to be eligible, you must:
- Currently attend a college/university in Massachusetts and have already completed at least one semester
- OR Have been a college student in the last year and can provide current proof of current residency in Massachusetts
- Undergraduates must have completed 24 credits to qualify. Please take note if you are a first-year student
Internship Information:
Compensation: $16/hour
Hours: Part time, flexible (20 hours a week)
Start: Flexible, after January 1st 2025
End: Flexible, before May 16th 2025
Location: Hybrid, including virtual work and some in person work at the Dojo at Somernova, 15 Properzi Way, Somerville, MA 02143

Who is CREW?
Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW) is a national, climate mutual aid network. CREW is a project of Better Future Project. Started in 2018, we have a small and energized staff that supports a large network of Resilience Hubs and collaborates with partners to do community outreach, research, and provide direct service to respond to our changing climate.
Mission Statement of Organization:
CREW builds climate resilience through education and social connections and equips communities, particularly those with compounding risks, with knowledge and resources to prepare for and respond to the ever worsening impacts of climate change
Internship Description:
The Community Engagement Intern for CREW will play a role in several distinct CREW projects, including but not limited to, the Charles River Flood Model, Climate Resilience Hub Program, the MA Coastal Resilience Project, and Climate Preparedness Week.
The Community Engagement Intern will be asked to attend and support outreach events in-person in:
- the Charles River Watershed, to engage residents about flood risks and mitigation projects
- other Massachusetts (MA) cities/towns working on climate preparedness projects (e.g. depaving and land transformation in Framingham, MA; managed climate retreat along MA coast)
Additionally, the Community Engagement Intern will be asked to:
- Prepare materials for workshops, tabling events, and community meetings
- Participate in staff meetings
- Manage CREW’s educational resource database
- Join virtual meetings and support our Climate Resilience Hub program with tech questions and/or materials support
- Manage CREW communications including our quarterly newsletter, Google Group, and social media platforms
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong writing and communications skills
- Demonstrated interest in environmental justice, climate justice, racial justice, and/or other social justice issues
- Experience with social media and digital outreach (especially Twitter and Instagram)
- Experience and/or interest in community engagement and organizing
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Fluency with Zoom, Slack, Google Apps and associated applications
Anticipated Internship Outcomes:
- Gain hands-on experience working with a nationwide resilience hub network in a crucial political climate
- Expand understanding of leadership development, the climate movement, and political processes
- Increased understanding of community organizing best practices
- Gain hands-on experience in community engagement
- Experience in workshop development and facilitation
- Develop and strengthen program management skills
- Experience in developing and implementing communications strategies
