Job Title: Grant Writing Intern

About the Role:

The Grant Writing Intern will assist the Development team at Thaddeus Resource Center by conducting research, locating potential grant funders, creating and submitting grant proposals, and supporting the grant application process through to its conclusion. As a key player in expanding community outreach and engagement, the intern will assist in obtaining funding for services and initiatives that support the organization’s mission. The intern may also help draft fundraising materials, impact reports, and other written content to support Thaddeus Resource Center’s initiatives.

This internship is unpaid but is eligible for academic or course credit if approved by your educational institution.

Responsibilities:

Identify and research potential grant funding opportunities from public, private, and federal sources.

Retrieve and collect relevant background information for grant proposals.

Write, edit, and format compelling grant proposals and funding requests.

Keep track of deliverables and make sure deadlines are met to help with grant application submission.

Maintain grant tracking systems that monitor deadlines, submissions, and follow-ups.

Provide administrative support to the development team by keeping databases up to date and updating funding records.

Assist in creating newsletters, website content, and social media posts that are relevant to grant-related community engagement outreach.

Engage in our Buddy System after you’ve integrated and serve as a mentor or point of contact for newly hired interns as they go through the onboarding and induction process.

Qualifications:

Required

Pursuing an undergraduate degree in English, Writing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field, or have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Ability to write clear, structured, and persuasive proposals tailored to different funders

Strong research, writing, and editing skills with excellent attention to detail

Self-motivated and adaptable with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with Thaddeus Resource Center staff and external stakeholders

Commitment to Thaddeus Resource Center’s mission, vision, and values

Preferred:

Experience in grant writing or nonprofit fundraising

Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Experience working, volunteering, and/or writing for a nonprofit organization

Published written work is a plus

Knowledge of grant writing processes within Los Angeles County (highly preferred)

Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, OneNote, 8×8 Work, and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Adobe Acrobat DC

Learning Objectives

Interns will gain proficiency in researching and identifying potential grant funding sources.

Interns will develop foundational skills in writing and editing contracts, company newsletters, and blogs.

Interns will acquire practical experience in networking through community outreach and company-related events.

Interns will build a basic understanding of the nonprofit sector.

Interns will gain an understanding of the overall process involved in creating grant proposals.

Time Commitment

You will attend the All-Staff meeting every Tuesday from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST and your weekly department meeting on Thursdays from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST

Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week

Must be available to attend weekly meetings

Must be able to commit to a 1 year for the internship
