Internship Site Overview
The Higbee and Associates Consumer Advocacy Litigation division provides clients with legal counsel, debt settlement, and defense litigation, representing debtors in settlement negotiations and court appearances when needed. This is an unpaid position that will provide a valuable opportunity for a university and/or college student interested in a career in the legal field to work with a fast-paced national law firm. The position requires 10 hours a week for 10 weeks. Casual work environment and schedule can be flexible.
Internship Roles and Responsibilities
Civil Litigation intern duties include: researching legal issues; corresponding with clients; scanning and filing documents; contacting opposing counsel and courts; negotiating court websites to find documents and calendaring information; and experience in the discovery process. Students will leave this internship with real-world legal skills, knowledge of the litigation process and its documents, as well as client communication.
Required Skills and Knowledge Base
We are seeking dedicated individuals who have an interest in gaining legal experience with Civil Litigation. Previous legal experience is preferred but not required. Organization skills, proficiency with Mac OSX/Microsoft Office, as well as written and oral communication skills, are a plus. Consistency, reliability, and professionalism with clients are a must.

If students secure a paid internship but also need to take a corresponding internship course that is for-credit, please contact the Program Coordinator to discuss viable options. No international internships.
- To be eligible for HON 395, active UNLV Honors College students must be at least 18 years old, at sophomore standing or higher (at least 30 credits earned), and hold a GPA of 3.3 or higher. To enroll, students must gain consent of the HC Internship Program Coordinator by following the 5-step application process outlined at: unlv.edu/honors/internships
