Student Makerspace Creators (Creators) will assist small businesses, startups, students, faculty and the community at the UNLV Office of Economic Development’s Black Fire Innovation makerspace which is located off-campus at the Harry Reid Research and Technology Park (215 & Durango). Creators will utilize makerspace equipment to design, create, prototype, make, and guide members of the makerspace. Makerspace equipment and software includes 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, sewing, CNC router, and other equipment and electronics.

Duties & responsibilities
- Assist users with tools and equipment
- Assist with Makerspace orientations
- Create and maintain learning guides and support materials
- Monitor and maintain making supplies and tools
- Enforce safety guidelines for users
- Perform light equipment maintenance and cleaning
- Develop and maintain consistent policies and workflows for services
- Track client usage and user records.
- Create and complete special projects as assigned
Working conditions
- Standing, walking, sitting at computer, bending and stretching.
- Physically lifting and moving materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Possible use of carts to push materials
- Working with digital fabrication equipment, hand tools, and electronics
- Exposure to dust
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
Preferred:
- Interest in design, engineering, creating, computer science, fine arts, architecture, web design
- Customer service experience
- Previous makerspace, or digital fabrication experience
- Experience with design software preferred, but not required (Adobe, Solidworks)
Hours
Up to 20 hours a week with varying shifts available. Scheduled shifts will be based on availability and operational needs of the department.
Rate of pay
$13:00 – $15.00, depending on experience
