The American Society for Microbiology is the oldest and largest single life science membership organization in the world. The mission of the American Society for Microbiology is to advance the microbiological sciences as a vehicle for understanding life processes and to apply and communicate this knowledge for the improvement of health and environmental and economic well-being worldwide. ASM supports programs of education, training and public information; promotes the contributions and promise of the microbiological sciences; recognizes achievement and distinction among its practitioners; and sets standards of ethical and professional behavior. Student membership is $32 per year.
