The UNLV Moot Court Team is a competitive program that specializes in training undergraduate students on oral and written argumentation and advocacy skills in the context of appellate-style litigation. Competition team members will receive a case every year, learn to prepare written briefs, and perform oral arguments before a panel of judges in competitions all across the country. By taking on the role of an attorney, competing before different panels of judges, and walking through all the steps necessary to litigate an appellate case, students will gain the ability to come to legal conclusions by applying the relevant law to a set of facts in a case. This provides valuable exposure to the legal field for prospective first-generation lawyers, those thinking about a career in law, and students who would like firsthand, applicative experience arguing in court to get an edge in law school. Moreover, students work under the tutelage of actual attorneys and long-time litigators. While the Moot Court program prepares its members to compete in the collegiate circuit, more importantly, it operates with the purpose of preparing students for real-world advocacy and litigation. The UNLV Moot Court team operates with a passion for creating a real impact on American jurisprudence and raising the next generation of litigators.
